Do you believe in time travel?

I do.

In fact, you and I are traveling through time even as we connect on this page. Right now – as you read this – you are speeding into the future.

And we know what the “speed of time” is.

Time travels at 1 hour per hour.

Without any effort at all, one hour from now you will be one hour into the future. And there’s nothing you can do to stop it. Or slow it down. Or speed it up.

1 hour per hour. That’s the absolute speed limit on the highway of time.

And time not only has a speed, but a direction, too. Physicists, cosmologists and other scientific types have a concept called “the arrow of time.” Have you ever noticed that we are all born, then age, then die; never the other way around? Cal Tech’s Sean Carroll says, “The distinction between past and future seems to be consistent throughout the observable universe. The arrow of time is simply that distinction, pointing from past to future.”

Now if this is true, that time always moves from past to future at a speed of one hour per hour, maybe this explains why you can’t hold onto the past.

And if you can’t hold onto the past, maybe that means we in the Church have to stop trying to go the wrong way down the one-way street of time.

What do you suppose that would look like, time traveler?
