Picked up my grandkids from their school yesterday.
Christian school, mind you.
Was shocked to see the older kids coming out of the building with toy guns looking like assault weapons. Grandson explained they were nerf guns, used that day in school in an exercise called “fun wars.” Apparently the students spent the day hunting and trying to “kill” each other with a nerf “head shot.”
Don’t know who won the war.
Wasn’t God, for sure.
I am a gun advocate , but this goes against everything we’ve taught our kids about handling guns . We taught them to never point a gun at someone , even if unloaded or a toy . Now on to the “kill” part . Have we become so insensitive to the value of human life that we advocate killing others with a head shot in play ? Was it the same when we played cowboys and Indians? Makes me sad .
Nerf guns in a Christain school? Something not right with that. picture makes me sad. I am working these days in a public school where such toys are “not allowed”. Am I missing something here? (I grew up in N. Ireland where because of civil unrest and troubles there. I actually saw gun violence as a young person.Not a good memory ). However even there and then guns or other weapons had no place in the schools. I am confident that in grandsons school adult teachers and administrators are not aware of the nerf guns?
22+ years in the trenches of education and this shocks and disappoints me. Educators, administrators, parents and students themselves should take a look at the situation. Students need to be responsible for their own actions as well as adults. Disappointing.
