Meet Marty Singley

Hi! My name is Marty Singley—although if you knew me back in the old neighborhood off Clark St. in Worcester, MA, you probably remember me as little “Butchie” Singley. I know, I know—it’s hard to believe, but I somehow grew up to become an ordained minister. No, really. I even have the paperwork to prove it.After serving churches in Massachusetts for many years, my late wife Sandy and I decided to head South. Consequently, in 1996 we landed in Tellico Village, a wonderful community in Loudon, Tennessee where I served an exciting interdenominational congregation for 18 years. However, in 2012 I underwent quadruple bypass surgery—a wake up call that reminded me what matters most. Accordingly, I retired from full-time ministry in May 2014 to spend more time with my family. Nevertheless, the preacher in me never stopped working.

A Lifetime of Sermons, Freely Shared

After decades behind the pulpit, I know firsthand how demanding it is to prepare a fresh, meaningful sermon week after week. The research, the prayer, and the writing—in fact, it never gets easy. That is why I created this site.I have decades of sermons, illustrations, and stories from my years of preaching. Specifically, I want to share them as free sermon resources for ministers, pastors, and anyone who loves a good message. Are they perfect? No. However, every now and then there’s a brilliant flash of the Holy Spirit in there. Consequently, if something I wrote sparks an idea for your own message, that is more than enough for me.

Feel free to use anything you find here. Attribution is appreciated but never required. We’re all in this together.

Organized by the Revised Common Lectionary

I’m a big fan of the Revised Common Lectionary so most of the sermons on this site are organized to follow those texts. Whether you’re preaching next Sunday or planning ahead for the liturgical season, you should be able to find something useful to get you started.

How to Use These Free Resources in Your Own Ministry

These free sermon resources are meant to inspire – not replace – your own study and preparation. Use them however helps you most:

  • As a starting point when you’re staring at a blank page
  • For illustrations and stories to bring a text to life
  • For personal devotion if you just love a good sermon

However you use them, I hope they serve you well.

Now go preach something good!

Best,

Marty Singley
