TeamStinger was out geocaching yesterday.

Geocaching is a really fun sport that takes you out into the wild in search of “caches” hidden by other geocachers. Using a compass or GPS to find the area where the cache is hidden, you follow cryptic hints to narrow the search until you find the prize hidden in the cleft of a rock, or hanging from a tree branch, or…wherever. Some caches are tiny (called “micros”) with only enough room inside for a paper log to sign. Other caches are larger – like a tupperware container or even a war surplus ammo box. These usually contain various “treasures” that may be taken by the geocachers who find it. The finding team then puts another treasure in for someone else to find. Geocaching is fun! We Singley’s have been doing it for a few years now. We call ourselves TeamStinger.

So we were out geocaching yesterday when we came across a cache containing – are you ready for this? – a ONE MILLION DOLLAR BILL!

Woo-hoo! Grandson Ryan pulled out the bill and studied it. Sure enough, it was a 1 followed by 6 zeroes! We hit the jackpot! Until Ryan flipped the bill over to the other side and read what it said:

The million dollar question: Will you go to heaven when you die? Here’s a quick test: Have you ever told a lie, stolen anything, or used God’s name in vain? Jesus said, ‘Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.’ Have you looked with lust? Will you be guilty on Judgment Day? If you have done those things God sees you as a lying, thieving, blasphemous, adulterer at heart. The Bible warns that if you are guilty you will end up in hell…

And you have a nice day, geocacher!

It didn’t really wish us a nice day, but it did go on to outline how we can be saved from hell by loving God before God kills us.

This reminds me of the giant billboard on Interstate 40 in Tennessee. It asked in big bold print: “If you die tonight, will you go to heaven?”

Every time I drive by that sign I find myself thinking that the better question would be, “If you DON’T die tonight, how will you LIVE tomorrow?”

That seems to me to be the real MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION.
